    ISL381 Orientalism & Islamic Studies 2 Credit Unit
    Description: The source focuses on the study of Islam and its general characteristics, origin and sources of Islam, the concept of knowledge and qualification of a Muslim scholar (Alim), it teaches the students how to acquire sound knowledge in Islam. It exposes the students to orientalists and their approach to Islam, their motives, objective of studying Islam and their main qualification. It studies the influence of orientalism on some modern scholars: Ali ĎAbd al-Raziq, Ahmad Khan, Taha Hussain, Ahmad Amin. It makes a critical evaluation of the works of Orientalists: Gibb, Goldzier, Guillame, Hitti, Lewsi and Watt.
